Pressure On Australian Government to Broaden Skills Categories

Project developmnt group Leightons has called upon the Australian Federal Government to broaden its skilled migration categories to include more semi-skilled workers.

Wal King, the company’s chief executive said, “The labour market should be completely opened up and by 457 programs right across the board, or certainly if not right across the board, down to areas that I would call semi-skilled such as truck drivers.”  As it stands, despite shortages in some areas, certain skills are overlooked by the system.
