Victoria – Migration Figures Are Right on Track

Premier John Brumby has told the Age newspaper in Melbourne that migration figures for Victoria are just fine as they are and that the state will now take a ‘less aggressive’ approach to attracting skilled migrants from overseas.  ‘Last year we added 80,000 people. In the 1990s, under the former (Kennett) government, the problem was the exodus. We were losing people – 40,000 a year. So we’ve had a dramatic turnaround because Victoria is a very popular place to live,” he said.

Victoria has increased its share of Australia’s skilled migrant intake from 17.6% in 1998-99 to about 27% now and is welcoming around 1500 new residents every week.  If you want to know why so many people are choosing to make their new home in Victoria, check out www.workingin-australia.com.
