Australian Minister for Immigration Chris Evans’ aim to target the backlog of 457 visa applications is starting to take effect. The visa, which allows skilled workers into Australia on temporary working permits, had bottle necked significantly at the beginning of the year but with the creation of three Centres of Excellence based in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, tasked with dealing with the demands of businesses looking for talent, things are starting to improve.
Chris Evans explained, “Earlier this year, I directed the department to clear a backlog of about 13 000 temporary skilled migration visa applications on hand since March, many of which were outside the acceptable standards of processing.”
