Australian Economy Booms as Immigrants Ship In

According to an article in the Australian, Immigration Minister Chris Evans is due to announce the results of research into the economic benefits of his government’s widened immigration policies today which “dispels the myth that new migrants impose a huge impost on the taxpayer”.

The research, labelled Access Economics, will model the economic effects of the 171,000 migrants who entered Australia between 2007-8.  The modelling is expected to show that the unprecedented intake will generate $610million in their first year of residency, $965 million in the second year and a massive $1.5 billion after they have lived in Australia for 20 years.

Australia is actively encouraging skilled migrants to enter the country to fill occupational skills shortages and in some cases is fast-tracking vital skilled workers into areas where the shortage is acute.  Take a look at www.workingin-australia.com to see whether your skills are in demand.
