South Australia’s mining and defense industries are targeting New Zealanders in the latest bid to fill labour shortages within the state. And according to Statistics New Zealand figures, Kiwis are playing along and crossing the Tasman in record figures with a net migration of 31,900 last year.
Historically, Kiwis have settled in Queensland and New South Wales but Mike Rann, the South Australian Premier, is keen to spread the word that South Australia is where it is all going on, with an impending economic boom expected, thanks to the development of mining projects in the state, “Traditionally New Zealanders have gone to Queensland or Sydney but it’s important to go to the next boom town not the last one,” commented Mr Rann.
So? Want to join in this global movement? If you have skills and are motivated to emigrate to Australia and happen to hold a New Zealand passport, you are in luck. The two countries share a reciprocal agreement which allows each others citizens to live and work in each country without visa restrictions.
